When Are My Next Books Dropping?
2024 saw the end of my Ascension Legacy series. All 6 books in the series have been released and that goal has been achieved. True, there are a couple of the earlier books in the series that I am planning to re-release soon as I complete my transition away from Newman Springs Publishing. But those won’t include any “new” content. About the only thing new for those books will be the new ISBN numbers that are required for sales purposes.
And as I’ve commented on previously in my blogs, I do have other books outside of my Ascension Legacy series that I have completed and others that are being worked on. So if I already have books written, when will they be published?
No time soon. Right now, I’m thinking maybe 2026 or so. Pushing to publish 6 books in 5 years was not an easy or cheap undertaking. Now that I have completed that task, I want to take a bit of a break. Not from writing or anything, just from the hustle and bustle of trying to publish a book. There’s a lot that goes into getting a book from draft to print and I have largely lived that life non-stop for that last few years.
I need to refill my coffers, both literally and figuratively. Publishing a book can cost thousands of dollars for each book you want to produce. I’ve calculated that I’ve spent in the neighborhood of $15,000 to $20,000 since 2019 to get my books published and promoted. Of course, that sum also includes my web hosting fees and other general costs indirectly related to my books but still, that’s not an insignificant amount of money.
But more than just the financial toll, there is a mental cost that comes with the effort and exercise of publishing a book. Frankly, I’m mentally wiped out at this point. It is stressful to find services, validate content, coordinate the various activities and deliveries needed to do certain things, and everything else that goes into making a book. After doing 6 books back-to-back, and then re-doing 3 of those books after a change in publishers, it has worn me out.
I want to get my other books published. I want to continue writing and creating the stories I want to tell. I’m not stopping by any means. But I am going to take a break in between to recuperate. The lessons I’ve learned about the publishing process and the connections I’ve made with suppliers and vendors is awesome. I want to continue to leverage those lessons and connections but need to restock my funds based on those same lessons and connections that I’ve had recently. I want to take some time to dive deeper into some research that I started throughout the preceding process to see where I can improve and expand. I want to explore more avenues related to the publishing world like audiobooks, book trailers, expo shows, etc., to see how they can help me to increase my exposure and to expose my books to a wider audience.
So the bottom line is I don’t know when my next books are going to drop. I have some thoughts on when I might start that process again but nothing is concrete. But rest assured that whenever I choose to start that next leg of my adventure that I will be blogging about it.
