As this year comes to a close and we all begin looking forward to what 2022 holds for us, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the many changes 2021 introduced into my life, largely in a positive way.

With Q3 of 2021 I had hoped to see a nice spike in sales. I had run a few ads on social media to market my books. I had joined a few groups on social media to help market my books. I had solicited reviews for my books by giving away free copies to those who wanted to read and review them. I even was the subject of an article in a local publication that was delivered to readers in early August.

It seemed that all the factors were there for me to have a successful Q3.

Sadly, I waited until all of the Q3 sales had been tallied and I logged in to see what my sales were only to find that each book only sold 1 copy. Even more depressing was that I was the one that bought each copy! I needed the Kindle versions of the book to do some promotional stuff after I realized that the final pdf copies provided by the publisher were "locked" and I couldn't use them. For it still being my intellectual property, the publisher files seemed to restrict my access to my content so I found a workaround which required me buying my own books.

This is a question that many authors struggle with. They want to describe the world their stories take place in, the characters involved along with all of their physical traits, and even the weather to give the readers a sense of immersion into the the world and not just the story. But there seems to be a fine line between giving the readers enough information and too much. As a writer, this begs the question to me of where is that line of becoming "too descriptive"?

Both Bella the Bedtime Butterfly & Brave Mee and the Forest of Tangle Lies are children’s books written by Laura Wright who is U.S. Armed Forced Marine veteran. Both books were released digitally in 2020 but are available in both ebook, hardback, and paperback formats.

Bella the Bedtime Butterfly follows the adventure of Bella, a butterfly who spends her days spreading smiles to different children around town dealing with issues that cause them to frown. At night, Bella takes to the dream world to fight Frownster the dragon.

Brave Mee and the Forest of Tangled Lies is different than Bella the Bedtime Butterfly. Brave Mee is about a young child who is filled with self-doubt and a deflated sense of self-worth. Brave Mee ventures into the Forest of Tangled Lies where the child must face certain fears and perceptions about themself. Only after confronting the fears and poor self-images can Brave Mee see the truth of how others think about the young child. Once Brave Mee realizes the truth and begins to see his/her true value to others, Brave Mee manages to leave the forest and return home much happier than before.
